About the Association

The Association is a not for profit organization formed in 1978 to provide a way for sailors who served on-board the USS Lexington CV 16 to renew old, and form new, friendships. Over the years it has been expanded to include shipmates of all hull designations of the USS Lexington hull number 16, including air groups, and marines that served on board while the ship was commissioned in the United States Navy.

A reunion is held each year. Association members, spouses and friends are invited to attend. Reunions have been held in the following cities:

An Association newsletter, the Sunrise Press is published three or four times a year. It includes items of general interest concerning the Navy and specific information about the Association.

The Association is often called the "Men of the Blue Ghost Association" after the name "blue ghost" was applied to the USS Lexington by the Japanese in World War II after Tokyo Rose reported the ship sunk several times.
